“Mr and Mrs Noah”; Oil Painting on Canvas by Bob Claytor
“Mr and Mrs Noah”
36″ x 36″; Oil on Canvas; 1998
“..never again shall all creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood..” -Genesis
This is a painting of Noah and his wife after the Flood. The predominantly red design evokes the passion of the moment as they respond to the understanding that they will never again have to suffer the fear of destruction in such a way. Noah however grasps a lobster in both hands and as such hints at the dualism of life and the troubles to come. The donkey on the bottom right reminds us that this is a tale told in the context of the New Testament, where a different kind of salvation awaits the faithful.
