“Land Ahoy”; Oil on Canvas by Bob Claytor
“Land Ahoy”
60″ x 48″ Oil on Canvas; 1985
“……on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible”. -Genesis
This is a large oil painting done in a hard edged graphic style. It is based on photographs taken of fishing boats in Whitby harbour and I like the idea of it summing up something of the idea of shorelines, embarking and disembarking. Over the years it has grown into a reflection upon the point at which the Flood has ended and Noah and his family are safe after the tribulations of life in the arc. The Dove has found dry land.
